Malang City Major Building in 2008

Image
I took this Malang city Major building in 2008. Of course there has been many changes around the building. But I can assure you that right now the environment is still astonishing. Those big trees on the sides of the building still give the best fresh feeling you can get when you walk on its streets. Take a look at the park, beautiful, isn’t it? It has been my favorite spot in Malang . Many foreigners consider this Malang City Major Building as the first place to visit beside Jalan Ijen . Share this post :

Malang as a Flower City

Image
Malang is known as a flower city . That “was” true. Nowadays, Malang is more known as educational city as there are many universities here. If you want to find flowers, then I recommend Batu . If you have already in Malang, you should visit Batu. There you will find many beautiful flower plantations. Maybe because Batu –as a place where flowers in Malang come from- had been a part of Malang, while Malang is bigger than Batu, then Malang “was” called as a flower city. This is only my assumption then. Now it depends to the Malang’s government and its citizen to reconstruct Malang, whether to let it to be a different kind of city, or go back to what the world has known about it, as a city of flower. As other Indonesian city, Malang also has Aloon-aloon, or Alun-alun in Indonesian, as a place for people to gather and enjoy their time. Alun-alun Malang also serves that function. Do you know how the Malang’s Alun-alun becomes so popular for the Dutch? There is a book entitled “...

Traditional Akik Stone Market on Majapahit Street, Malang

Image
No wonder that now Malang has grown into a big city. Many new city’s facilities are being built. And the citizens are getting familiar with modern lifestyle. But yet, we can still find many traditional ‘things’ in Malang. One of them is traditional Akik Stone (Hakeek Stone) Market on Majapahit Street. Majapahit Street is not so far from the city center. If you are already in front of Kayutangan Church , then you are just in front of it. Majapahit Street is on the right side of the church. There are about 35 Akik sellers that display their Akik stones in front of unoccupied shop’s parking lot. They sell kinds of Akik Stone and also diamonds, completed with the ring. They get the stones from other Indonesian cities, and sometimes from other countries. Like Jamrud (Colombia), Blue Safire (Burma and Australia), Silent (Srilanka), Giok (China) and Red Ruby (Africa). An Akik Stone completed with the ring is priced from hundreds to million rupiahs. The ring itself can be made from...

Malang City Major’s Office at Night Photo

Image
Nothing is special in this photo, but that it was taken when the sun had set. It was at about 6.30 in the evening. When I was on my way home from MOG, I stopped to take this City Major’s Office. The problem is my SE G502. Although it has 2 mega pixel camera, Sony Ericsson G502’s camera is very poor when it is used in low light condition, even if it is compared to Sony Ericsson K510i. I have refined this photo using Photoshop CS to reduce some grains that appear around the lamps’ light. It is not good enough I think. I do hope that you can enjoy this. Ramayana Malang Plaza Photo

Image
Ramayana Malang is one of plaza you can find in Malang. Malang Kabupaten’s alun-alun is surrounded by some Plazas. Sarinah Plaza is on the north, Ramayana is on the north east, and on the south east you’ll find Mitra 1 Plaza, Gajahmada Plaza, and Malang Plaza. I don’t really know why there are so many plazas on that small spot. I think 2 or 3 big stores is enough. Moreover, the plazas are not specialized to sell something, compared to THR in Surabaya, which is focused on cell phones and computers. But when I see the crowd inside those plazas, especially in Saturday nights, Sundays, and other holidays, I have no doubt that Malang’s people need more places to shop, hehe …. I’m not that shopaholic. It is really a hard time for me to accompany friends or relatives who want to go shopping in those plazas. Traditional market is more interesting. So, maybe that’s why I can not understand why Malang’s people need more than 5 plazas. Technorati Tags: Malang , Photos , Ramayana Plaza

Photos of Alun-alun Bunder Kota Malang

Image
This is the most recent picture of Alun-Alun Bunder Kota Malang I have. Quite nice actually, but I think it not Indonesia banget , hehe Malang, just like the other cities in Java, has two alun-alun. The first alun-alun belong to the Kabupaten and the second belong to the Kota Madya. Usually Kota Madya's alun-alun is better than the Kabupatens. Hehe... Kantor Kota Madya Malang. It is located at the south east of the alun-alun bunder or alun-alun Kota Madya. I do not really know its history, but from its architecture we can see it is not Indonesian building. Maybe it wa built by the Dutch government. I'll try to find out more about this building. Karang Kates. From the name, we may guess that the meaning is the place where we can find reefs in the shape of papaya. Who knows? Actually, Karang Kates is a nice place to visit. It has pretty scenery and the people are kind. You can find 'mujaer bakar.' I haven't tried it yet. But people said that it is delicious (to th...
