Garuda Indonesia Airlines has been flying since 1949 – originally during Indonesia's struggle to break its Dutch colonial ties. 1961 saw the beginning of international flights to Hong Kong, and in 1965 service to Amsterdam began Garuda Indonesia's Europe international flights.
